Aerotron take flight with corporate signage by FASTSIGNS Crawley and Applelec

At over three metres in length, face and halo lit fabricated signs for aviation experts Aerotron Limited were created by FASTSIGNS Crawley and Applelec.

Specialising in both civil and military aircraft, Aerotron recently extended their purpose built headquarters at London’s Gatwick Airport. The environmentally controlled warehouse now covers 28,500 sq ft with two new signs required to complete the extension project. Combining face and halo illumination in a shaped, fabricated sign tray, the design for Aerotron’s new signs was a collaborative effort between FASTSIGNS Crawley and Applelec.

Raj Vithlani of FASTSIGNS Crawley comments: “We have been working with Aerotron Limited since 1996 making them one of FASTSIGNS Crawley’s first customers. The new building extension is a result of significant growth for this highly specialised company and we wanted to deliver some very special signage to mark this success.’

To create the Aerotron signs, a shaped sign tray face was stencil cut and inlaid with 10mm deep opal acrylic letters. Face illumination was achieved using Applelec’s energy efficient LED Light Sheet, a flat light panel positioned directly behind the stencil cut area. To create the sign’s halo illumination, a reverse back tray housing blue SloanLED V-Series LEDs was constructed to fit within the shaped sign tray face.

In the final layer of the sign, a 3mm flat cut aluminium back panel was fixed to the reverse back tray with a countersunk M8 bolt and spaced off to enable the sign’s halo illumination to take effect. A shaped vinyl graphic was applied to the face of each sign to complete the construction.

Sam Armstrong, Applelec sales director, said: “We’re always delighted to share our sign construction knowledge and techniques with customers. This is all part of the service our customers can rely upon.’
